Twenty-year-old Korean basketball prospect Yeo Jun-seok is headed to Gonzaga University in Washington to play in the NCAA, the college basketball league that acts as a preliminary stage for the NBA.
The Gonzaga University’s basketball team announced Tuesday that Yeo will join the school in 2023. Mark Few, the school’s basketball coach, explained that Yeo will join the squad and will play his first official game as a sophomore in the 2023-24 season.
This is the first time that a Korean player has joined an NCAA team since Lee Hyun-jung played for Davison College in 2019.
Gonzaga University is well-known for its basketball team as the Gonzaga Bulldogs finished as runners-up twice in the NCAA men’s basketball championship in 2017 and 2021. They are ranked at sixth as of Jan. 16, according to the Associated Press’s college basketball poll released every week. 메이저사이트
Yeo proved his worth and potential back in the 2021 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, where he became the first ever Korean player to win the highest scorer title with an average of 25.6 points per game.
The Korean prospect’s original intention was to take a gap year from Korea University and go play in the NBA G League, the NBA’s official development league, but he ended up changing that plan.
“This is a very good opportunity for me and I’m happy that I’ve become part of Gonzaga,” Yeo said.
