‘Won Tae-in joins Hangzhou AG squad, becomes No. 1 alternate starter’ Former No. 1 pick tastes victory for first time in 106 days

Samsung Lions’ first-round pick, right-hander Hwang Dong-jae, tasted victory for the first time in 106 days.

Hwang Dong-jae started the Futures’ game against KIA at Hampyeong-Kia Challengers Field on May 13 and pitched five innings of three-hit ball with one walk and four strikeouts. It was 106 days since he earned his first win of the season against KIA on May 30. Of his 56 total pitches, 42 were strikes.

After giving up a leadoff single to Kim Min-soo in the first inning, Hwang Dong-jae induced Han Seung-yeon to fly out to center field and Hong Jong-pyo to ground out to shortstop. In the second inning, Hwang allowed Kim Seok-hwan to walk on a full count. He then retired Byun Woo-hyuk (swinging strikeout), Kim Ho-ryung (fly to center field), and Jung Jung-won (groundout).

After retiring Shin Beom-soo and Jang Si-hyun in the third inning on a wild pitch and a fly to center field, respectively, Hwang Dong-jae gave up a single to Kim Min-soo two batters later, but struck out Han Seung-yeon to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, he gave up a single to Kim Seok-hwan and then struck out Byun Woo-hyuk to keep the scoreless streak alive. In the fifth inning, Hwang Dong-jae reached on an error to lead off Kim Ho-ryung before getting Jung Hae-won to fly out to center field and Shin Beom-soo to ground out to first base to end the inning. Hwang turned the mound over to right-hander Kim Si-hyun in the sixth inning with a 6-0 lead.

Park said he plans to utilize either Hwang Dong-jae, a first-round pick, or right-hander Lee Ho-sung, a first-round pick this season, as a backup starter if the “blue-blooded ace” Won Tae-in joins the Hangzhou Asian Games squad.

“Between Hwang Dong-jae and Lee Ho-sung, I’ll use the one who is in better shape,” he said. As of now, Hwang Dong-jae has the better pace and is likely to take the mound in place of Won Tae-in. 메이저놀이터

After Hwang Dong-jae, Kim Si-hyun, Meng Sung-joo, Kim Tae-woo, and Kim Yong-ha took the mound for Samsung in a 10-3 victory over KIA. Kim showed his fixer-upper instincts by going 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Yoon Jung-bin went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Lee Tae-hoon went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored. Leadoff hitter Kang Jun-seo also had a multi-hit game.

KIA starter Yu Ji-sung was charged with five runs on seven hits (two home runs) and three walks in three innings, striking out one. It was his fourth loss of the season. First baseman Kim Min-soo was the only other player on the team with two hits.
