Suwon FC foreign striker Lars Veltwijk (31, Netherlands) has been arrested for drunk driving. According to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, he is currently being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol under the Road Traffic Act.
On July 7, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said, “Police responded to a call about a suspected drunk driver and arrested Lars on a road in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu at around 4 a.m. that day. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol content was over 0.08%, which is equivalent to a license revocation.”
Rath made his debut in the K League in 2020 when he donned a Jeonbuk Hyundai jersey. However, he struggled to adapt and was transferred to Suwon FC that summer. Since then, he has been a consistent performer and has developed into a ‘core’ striker.
In fact, Lars has scored 39 goals and provided 21 assists in 110 games across all competitions for Suwon FC. So far this season, he’s been an ‘ace’ with nine goals and five assists in 21 appearances. He also rattled the net in the Suwon Derby against Suwon Samseong last weekend.
Rath, however, disappointed fans when he was arrested for drunk driving. Lars was criticized for driving under the influence of alcohol while Suwon FC was having a tough time this season, with the club facing relegation after a long slump. 꽁머니지급
Suwon FC immediately went into an emergency meeting and announced on their official social networking service (SNS), “We would like to inform our fans that Ras was caught drinking and driving and is under police investigation. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our fans who have always supported and loved us,” the club said in a statement.
“We notified the KFA immediately after Lars was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and will follow up with appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the relevant regulations,” the statement continued. For now, termination is the likely outcome.
