The Kia Tigers are on a scary roll. It’s a five-game winning streak.
KIA won 5-1 against KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on Sept. 9 at KT Wiz Park in Suwon.
KT’s lineup was Kim Min-hyuk (left fielder), Kim Sang-soo (shortstop), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Park Byung-ho (first baseman), Jang Sung-woo (catcher), Lee Ho-yeon (second baseman), Anthony Alford (designated hitter), Ahn Chi-young (right fielder), and Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder). The starting pitcher was Exclusion.
He gave up three runs (three earned) on six hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out three. Ho-yeon Lee, returning from a broken nose, went 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, one run scored and one strikeout.
With Mario Sanchez starting, KIA’s lineup was Choi Won-jun (1B), Kim Do-young (3B), Na Sung-beom (R), Choi Hyung-woo (LF), Socrates Brito (CF), Ko Jong-wook (designated hitter), Kim Sun-bin (2B), Kim Tae-gun (catcher), and Park Chan-ho (shortstop).
Sanchez, making his KBO debut, pitched 6 1/3 innings of one run (one earned), five hits (one home run) and 10 strikeouts to earn the win. Na Sung-bum went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored, while Choi Won-joon, Kim Sun-bin and Park Chan-ho also had one hit apiece.
KIA opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Go Jong-wook led off with a single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch by Choi Jeong-seong. Kim flied out to right field, but Kim Tae-gun singled to put runners on first and third. Park Chan-ho singled to center field. With runners on first and second, Park Chan-ho stole second, and Choi Won-joon followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, KT began to chase. With the bases loaded, Lee Ho-yeon came to the plate. Lee took a four-pitch 145 km/h fastball from Sanchez in the 2B1S and smashed it over the right field fence. 안전놀이터추천
In the top of the sixth, KIA extended its lead. With one out, Choi Hyung-woo and Socrates followed with back-to-back singles. Ko Jong-wook drew a walk to load the bases. In the scoring opportunity, Kim Sun-bin hit a single. However, Kim Tae-gun struck out to end the threat.
In the top of the seventh, KIA drove in the winning run. With two outs, Kim Do-young drew a walk. Na Sung-beom then hit a 145km/h fastball from Park Young-hyun for a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the eighth, KT had a chance to catch up. With two outs, Kim Min-hyuk and Kim Sang-soo singled to put runners on first and third. KIA pulled Choi Ji-min and sent Jeon Sang-hyun to the mound. At the plate was Hwang Jae-gyun. However, Hwang Jae-gyun struck out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Jeon held KT without allowing a run. Kia extended its winning streak to five games. KT has lost four straight games.
