Max Scherzer (39, New York Mets), who was suspended for 10 games due to controversy over the use of foreign substances, was shaken in his first appearance after the disciplinary action was lifted.
On the 4th (Korean time), Scherzer started against the Detroit Tigers in the ‘2023 Major League Baseball’ held at Comerica Field in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Last appearance (against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the 20th of last month) Scherzer was ejected during the game due to a foreign object controversy. “I swear by my children. He did not utilize any other substance. He protested, saying, “It is my sweat and rosin,” but it was not accepted. In the end, Scherzer was punished for playing 10 games according to the rules, and he did not raise an objection and was suspended for 10 games.
Scherzer was a bit shaky in his first mound after the suspension was lifted. Jack McInstree (2B) – Riley Green (Center Field) – Javier Baez (Shortstop) – Nick Maytan (3B) – Spencer Torkelson (1B) – Akil Badu (Left Field) – Matt Bearing (Right Field) – Eric Haas (catcher)-Andy Avanez (designated hitter) failed to pitch perfectly against the Detroit batting line.
In the bottom of the first inning, Scherzer gave up his first run. From the start, he gave up a walk to McKinstree and an infield hit to Green, so he was safely on 1st and 2nd base. Afterwards, he caught Baez with a fly ball, but allowed a sacrifice fly to Maytan from 1st, 1st and 3rd base, giving the first score to 0-1. In the ensuing 2 out 1 base, Torkelson hit a 1 RBI double, making it 0-2.
Immediately in the bottom of the second inning, Scherzer gave up an extra run. After one shot, Haas hit a solo gun that went over the left wall, making it 0-3. In the bottom of the 4th inning, where the team continued to fall behind 1-3, Bearing allowed a 2-run home run to widen the score to 1-5.
Scherzer continued to falter even after conceding. He struck out Haas, but was hit back-to-back by Aváñez and McInstree. Eventually, he was replaced on first and third bases by reliever Jack Mackenhirn and ended the day’s appearance. Since then, Mercenhirn, who took the mound, gave Green an RBI and a timely hit, increasing Scherzer’s run by one more point. 안전놀이터
The final score was 3⅓ innings, 8 hits (2 home runs), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 6 runs. It is the worst pitching Scherzer has shown this season and the first game with more than 6 earned runs since the San Diego Padres game on July 9, 2021 (7 runs).
Meanwhile, at the end of the fourth inning, the Mets are trailing Detroit 1-6.
