‘I’m so happy and tongue-in-cheek’ Doosan’s Kwak-Bin Kwak threw a 153km/h, eight-inning, no-hit, 5K lifesaver against SSG’s Kwang-Hyun Kim. Kwak was all smiles after becoming the first pitcher to win 10 games in his professional career.
Doosan Bears starting pitcher Kwak-bin Kwak confidently threw his pitches against SSG Landers’ top pitcher Kim Kwang-hyun in the KBO on Friday at Jamsil Stadium. He needed just one more win to become the first 10-win pitcher in his career. To support Kwak-Bin on the mound, the Doosan brothers also lent their support in the offense.
They took advantage of short pitches, stole one more base and scored five runs in the fourth inning against the shaky ace Kim Kwang-hyun. Everyone played as one, even catcher Ahn Seung-han, who was not afraid of a collision in the seventh inning that could have resulted in a run, and tagged him down to preserve Kwak Bin’s no-hitter.
After eight innings of four-hit ball, three walks, five strikeouts and 102 pitches, Kwak-Bin was all smiles after earning his 10th win of the season. 스포츠토토
A right-handed fireballer who joined the Doosan Bears with the first overall pick in 2018, Kwak showed promise in his rookie season with a 3-1 record, one save, and a 7.55 ERA in 32 games. After suffering from elbow problems during the season, Kwak eventually underwent elbow ligament reconstruction that year and underwent a lengthy rehabilitation over the course of the 2019-2020 season.
After returning to the mound, Kwak went 4-7 in 21 games in 2021 and 8-9 in 27 games in 2022 as he began to establish himself as a starter.
This season, Kwak went 8-2 in 12 games in the first half of the year alone, putting him on pace for his first 10-win season. In the second half, he hasn’t been able to add a win since August 1 against Lotte.
The Doosan brothers played their hearts out for their younger brother’s first 10 wins. Kwak-bin’s shoulders were lightened on the mound as he excelled in the offense. In the end, Doosan won 10-1. Kwak-Bin celebrated with his brothers after becoming the first pitcher to win 10 games in his professional career.
