I took a 7-0 lead… KBO reverse export Flexen, 2⅓ innings 8 runs ‘shock loss’

The team’s batting line scored 7 points until the second inning, but they could not keep the lead. Chris Flexen (Seattle Mariners), who returned to the major leagues based on his success in the KBO League, was beaten.

Flexen took the mound as a starting pitcher in an away game against the Chicago Cubs held at Wrigley Field in Chicago on the 12th (Korean time), and collapsed with 10 hits, 2 homers, 2 walks, 1 strikeout and 8 runs in 2⅓ innings. The team also suffered an 8-12 defeat and became a losing pitcher.

The previous two games (9 innings, 3 runs) average ERA soared from 3.00 to 8.74. Flexen’s 8 runs are the second after 10 hits and 8 runs in 1⅔ innings against San Diego on May 22, 2021.

Seattle scored two runs with a two-run home run by Eugeno Suarez in the first inning, and added five runs in the second inning. With two opponent errors, he had a chance to load base safely, and ran away 7-0 with Thai France’s RBI, Suarez’s sacrifice fly, and Teosca Hernandez’s RBI.

After one out in the bottom of the first inning, Flexen was hit by Dansby Swanson in the infield at second base, but Ian Happ got a fly ball from center fielder and Trey Mancini struck out.

In the bottom of the second inning with a 7-0 lead, Cody Bellinger got an infield hit from second base and Patrick Wisdom walked. He induced second baseman Eric Hosmer with a grounder double hit and became 2nd and 3rd base. Jan Gomes allowed one run on an infield hit by second baseman.

Flexen collapsed in the second confrontation with the Cubs lineup in the third inning. Swanson got a right-handed hit and Happ got one out on a fly ball to third base. He threw a 91-mph high fastball to Mancini and allowed a two-run home run that went over the fence in the middle.

Bellinger got a right-handed hit and Wisdom walked. A right-handed hit by Hosmer allowed the fourth run. In the 1st and 1st and 2nd bases, the pitcher allowed Gomes an infield hit, putting the bases full.  메이저놀이터

Against Nelson Velázquez, a 92.1 mile four-seam fastball went high outside on the 5th pitch in a 3-ball, 1-strike, and Velázquez pulled it like lightning and fired a come-from-behind grand slam that went over the left-middle fence. When Flexen was hit with a home run and turned over, he was immediately beaten.

Seattle trailed by one point, 8-9, with Jared Kellenic’s solo home run in the fourth inning. However, the Cubs scored 2 runs on timely hits by Swanson and Mancini in the 5th inning to make it 11-8, and added 3 runs in the 6th inning to widen the score to 14-8.

Flexen played for the Doosan Bears in the KBO League in 2020, and signed a 2+1 year contract with Seattle for $12.75 million after the season. He gets a two-year guarantee of $4.75 million, and if he meets the vesting option, he will receive an annual salary of $8 million this year.

In 31 games in 2021, he was active with an average ERA of 3.61 with 14 wins and 6 losses, and last year he recorded 8 wins and 9 losses with an average ERA of 3.73 in 33 games (22 starts). Since August, he has been pushed out of position to the bullpen.
