Son Heung-min is getting a lot of attention as the new captain of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Singaporean media outlet ‘The Straits Times’ reported on the 13th (KST), “Son Heung-min has been named Tottenham’s captain ahead of the English Premier League (EPL) opener between Tottenham and Brentford. Son replaces Hugo Lloris,” and introduced six facts about Son Heung-min along with the news of his captaincy.

The Straight Times talked about his professional career in Germany, his experience captaining the national team, becoming the most prolific Asian EPL scorer, being exempt from military service, his signature clicker, and his father, Son Woong-Jung.

Heung-min has become a world-class player in his own right, but it was his hard work and his father’s dedication that got him there. Unlike other players, Son Heung-min was trained by his father, a former soccer player himself. His father, Son Woong-jeong, taught him the basics. He went on to attend Northeast High School, and shortly thereafter traveled to Hamburg as part of the Korean Football Association’s youth program.

He considered returning to the Bundesliga, but chose to take on the challenge. As Son Heung-min worked on his deficiencies, he grew. Season after season, he established himself as Tottenham’s main goal scorer.

He picked up his scoring pace in the second half of the season and battled with Mohamed Salah for the top scorer’s award, eventually finishing joint top scorer in the EPL with Salah with a multi-goal performance in the league final. He became the first Asian player to score in all five major leagues. Son Heung-min is a world-class player.

Last season, however, was a bit of a disappointment. He started the season on the bench due to a poor start to the season. On top of that, he suffered a major injury at UCL, fracturing his orbital bone and playing with a mask. This, coupled with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, took its toll on his body. It was even reported that he played through a sports hernia. Despite this, Heung-min still managed to score 10 goals and provide six assists in the league, putting him on pace for 103 EPL goals, tying him with Cristiano Ronaldo. 먹튀검증

Heung-min has become Tottenham’s new captain this season. Once it was confirmed that Joris would be leaving the team, there was talk of a new captain. Harry Kane seemed to be the favorite, but with Kane heading to Bayern Munich, Son has been given the captain’s armband.
